While the 2018 Kentucky Derby poll leaders from California in Bolt d’Oro, McKinzie, and Justify were prepping for their final races in a few weeks, horses from the East were able to make an impact on the Derby Day Racing Top 10 list.

Magnum Moon was able to defeat the highly regarded Bob Baffert runner Solomini in the Rebel Stakes (G2) at Oaklawn Park. In doing so, he vaulted into the third spot in Top 10 squeezing between west coast 3-year-olds. The son of Malibu Moon gave last year’s Kentucky Derby winner trainer Todd Pletcher his first definite starter for the first Saturday in May. The following weekend Pletcher would add another Derby runner when Noble Indy showed determination to regain the lead at the wire after being passed near the sixteenth pole. Noble Indy beat Lone Sailor from the Fair Grounds barn of Tom Amoss and My Boy Jack from Keith Desormeaux’s Santa Anita base.

In the next two weekends there are five big 100-point Derby preps around the country. No doubt, the results of those races will shake up the next Top 10 list.
