With the 2018 Kentucky Derby trail complete, the final qualifying points total has identified the 20-horse field pending any physical problems that may cause a horse to scratch out.

This week’s Derby Day Racing Top 10 was affected by the four-length victory in the Arkansas Derby by Magnum Moon. The son of Malibu Moon remained unbeaten in all four of his career starts that have come in 2018. He received the most first-place votes and moved into the top position by a clear margin.

The Derby Day Racing staff put a lot of weight on the fact that since the qualifying points system was instituted in 2013, the Kentucky Derby victor was the winner of a 100-point race in their most recent start. All seven of those horses from 2018 are in the top 10 with the other three being #3 Bolt d’Oro, #8 Flameaway, and #9 My Boy Jack.

The super trainers are also prominent in the poll, led by Todd Pletcher and his four horses that are all in the top 10. He is joined by Bob Baffert, Aidan O’Brien, Chad Brown, and Mark Casse. That’s 8 out of 10 for the big barn trainers, they are joined by Bolt d’Oro’s Mick Ruis and My Boy Jack from the barn of Keith Desormeaux.
