When Shang Shang Shang crossed the finish line first in an absolute thriller today in the Group 2 Norfolk Stakes at Royal Ascot, I could only imagine the thrill it brought to her American connections. To bring your young filly overseas to perhaps the greatest venue in all of horse racing, and watch her win an important race by an eyelash, has to be a moment that you will cherish for the rest of your life. The prestigious victory across the pond comes on the heels of Justify sweeping the Kentucky Derby, Preakness, and Belmont Stakes, becoming only the second Triple Crown winner in the last four decades.
What do the speedy juvenile filly who made the trip to Ascot, and the unbeaten Triple Crown champion have in common, you may ask? Both horses count racing partnerships among their ownership.
Shang Shang Shang, trained by Wesley Ward, was purchased by the Breeze Easy racing partnership just a few months ago as a two-year-old in training in Ocala, Florida. The daughter of Shanghai Bobby was purchased there in March for $200,000 after impressing in her eighth of a mile workout for the sale. Bringing in a quick return on investment, she is now two-for-two, having broken her maiden at Keeneland at first asking, before beating the boys today in England.
Justify, of course, is a far different story, with several big name owners in the mix, including WinStar Farm, but is owned in part by the well known partnership, Starlight Racing.
Surely wins like the ones Justify and Shang Shang Shang have pulled off recently are the exception rather than the rule, but we all have the basics in common. Every racehorse owner dreams of watching their horse in the race, and hopefully, the winners circle, no matter how big or how small the race may be. Whether we are talking about a leg of the Triple Crown, a stakes race at Royal Ascot, or the fourth race at Ellis Park, there is no better moment for an owner than to witness your horse reach the finish line ahead of the rest, followed by a celebratory stroll into the winners circle.
The excitement of seeing your horse running matters little with the level of racing, and perhaps even less in the percentage of ownership that you have in each horse. Whether at the track on race day, or in the morning on the backstretch, as an owner, you will discover an amazing emotional bond to each horse you own. You will also be part of a like-minded team with the same dreams as you. Finally, you will answer that question that many of us have carried for a long time … I wonder what it would be like to see my own horse, run, win, or even win a stakes race.
We here at Derby Day Racing realize that there are numerous options for racing partnerships out there. We can not guarantee success, but rather only guarantee that we are going to give it our all, and make it a fun ride along the way. Whether it is with us, or another partnership opportunity out there, we suggest that you look into racehorse partnership ownership today.
It is easier than ever to invest in a group that you trust. Simply put, you can get started as a racehorse owner, with much less risk, and worry, then going it alone. We will help you along every step of the way, and hopefully fulfill our racehorse ownership dreams together. Who knows? The next Shang Shang Shang may be owned by me and you, plus a whole team of new racing friends.
