Excitement is building for Team Derby Day Racing. The group of passionate racing fans is thrilled and excited to announce the purchase of Painismygain as the second promising juvenile to join the stable. The handsome son of Trappe Shot joins Sooner Schooner (Lookin At Lucky) in the 2018 two-year-old partnership.

“We feel extremely fortunate to have found another talented individual available for private purchase for our partners. Private purchases have become an important and successful way for partnerships to find horses of quality, and we fully expect Painismygain to develop into a strong runner and winner under the silks of Derby Day Racing,” said Managing Partner, Brian Zipse.

Painismygain is a juvenile colt bred in Kentucky by Ralph Kinder and Erv Woosley, and was introduced to the partnership by Lexington based bloodstock agent Josh Stevens. A very good match for what Zipse and team were looking for from a pedigree standpoint, the spirited bay colt has the bloodlines to be a winner.

Trappe Shot is a very well bred son of America’s top sire, Tapit. A winner of half of his 12 lifetime starts, he was a stakes winner both sprinting, and going around two-turns. Best known for winning the Grade 2 True North by 8 1/2-lengths, he was also versatile enough to run second behind Lookin At Lucky in the Haskell. Twice a winner by double digit margins, Trappe Shot has also come out of the gate running as a young sire, having led the nation among third-crop sires in winners last year. Among his impressive total of 11 stakes winners in 2017, includes the winner of nearly a million dollars, Untrapped. This year, his daughter Hotshot Anna set a new track record while winning a graded stakes race at Arlington Park.

As strong as the Trappe Shot-Tapit bloodlines are, Painismygain also has plenty to like on the female side. Donna D was a durable, stakes placed daughter of Haskell winner, Dixie Union. As a broodmare, she has quickly proven herself a valuable producer. Her first foal went unraced, but her next three foals are all winners, and two of them are stakes horses. Chaparella is a stakes winner, who has only finished outside the top 3 a single time in 12 lifetime starts, while Streetlady won her first two starts impressively before finishing second in a stakes race. The talented three-year-old filly is due back to the races soon for trainer, Michael Stidham. The sky is the limit for Donna D’s fifth foal, the newest member of the Derby Day Racing stable.

Painismygain’s pedigree also boasts a strong niche between Trappe Shot and Dixie Union …

Painismygain will be trained by two-time Breeders’ Cup winning trainer Buff Bradley. Known for his development of top horses and extraordinary care, Buff echos Brian’s assessment that the newest addition to his barn has a great pedigree, smooth stride, and has all the tools to be a very successful runner.

Painismygain passed his vet exam with flying colors Tuesday morning, and has already been shipped to the Bradley barn at Churchill Downs. A May foal, he still has some maturing to do and Buff will not rush him along. Having said that, he shows a real desire to compete on the racetrack. If all goes to plan, we can look forward to a fall debut for the second member of this exciting new partnership.
