There have been sweeping changes in the Derby Day Racing Top 10 for the 2019 Kentucky Derby. Only three of the top 10 from last time remain on the list. A total of 16 horses got votes with four different 3-year-olds getting at least one first-place vote.

Derby Day Racing’s Managing Partner Brian Zipse has not wavered all year long from his belief that the Baffert duo of Improbable and Game Winner are the most likely Kentucky Derby winners, but that it is now go time for that pair.

“The best Kentucky Derby preps are still to come … especially this weekend’s Santa Anita Derby, and the following week’s Arkansas Derby,” said Zipse.

Handicapper Jasen Mangrum believes in Roadster. He will need that Bob Baffert runner to finish in the top two this weekend to get the points required to make a run for the roses.

“Roadster is a bit of a wiseguy selection, since he hasn’t qualified for the Derby yet, but I believe he’s the best of the Baffert bunch and will prove it in this Saturday’s Santa Anita Derby,” explained Mangrum.

Managing Editor of DDR Matt Shifman has the Rebel Stakes winner Omaha Beach as his top pick.

“Omaha Beach had one of the most impressive victories on the Derby trail when he defeated my previous top choice of Game Winner,” explained Shifman. “I was impressed with the way he held off the Baffert runner. Since then he has been training brilliantly for Richard Mandella, who hasn’t had many Kentucky Derby starters. Nobody is better at getting the most out of his talented runners than Mandella.”

Long Range Toddy, who won the other division of the Rebel while beating Improbable, has caught the attention of DDR partner and video contributor Tony Bada Bing. Tony feels that the Steve Asmussen runner has proven to be the only reliable 3-year-old thus far. “In a field of uncertainty Long Range Toddy brings his “A” game each and every time.”
